Mandatory Continuing Education for construction starting on April 1, 2022
The amendment to the Regulation on the professional qualification of contractors and owner-builders imposes Mandatory Continuing Education from 16 to 32 hours every two years for the professionals concerned.
To ensure the right qualifications of construction contractors and to maintain the guarantee of innovative and quality construction, the Régie du Bâtiment du Québec (RBQ), the Corporation of Master Electricians of Quebec (CMEQ) and the Corporation of Master Mechanicians in Quebec Pipework (CMMTQ) have amended the Regulation respecting the professional qualification of contractors and owner-builders.
To prevent a gap from widening between the practices of the professionals and the current techniques, which could have a detrimental effect on the quality of the work and the safety of the public, the professionals concerned will have to follow a Mandatory Continuing Education from 16 to 32 hours every two years starting April 1, 2022.
Who is concerned?The professionals affected are those carrying out building, plumbing, heating or electrical work. The number of hours is established according to the license subclass(es) held:
- General contractors (majority of people concerned): 16 hours of training
- Depending on the number of sub-categories held or if they have both sub-categories covered by the continuing education regulations of the RBQ, the CMEQ and the CMMTQ: 24 or 32 hours of training
